Behold the largest waterfall system on the planet, Iguazú Falls near Buenos Aires. And explore Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic symbols of Peru’s ancient Inca heritage. Then sail up to the Yucatàn Peninsula to discover hidden coves and dramatic rock formations along Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas before exploring Ensenada.

Road Trips

It appears as though the latter half of the original itinerary is unchanged, with the voyage concluding in Barcelona, Spain on July 10. According to previous reports, guests will receive 25% off the pro-rated Segment 3 cruise fare in the form of a refundable payment. Adita asks for clarity and communication from Royal Caribbean and is not confirming any itinerary changes, but only asking if there has been any official word.

The Ultimate World Cruise – Less Than Ultimate?

News of a passenger death aboard the Ultimate World Cruise in February understandably caused concern among landlubbers seeing the headlines, visions of Agatha Christie mysteries dancing through their heads. "And so [I'm putting] an emphasis on just doing all of the things I can do now while I'm healthy, while I'm able, instead of putting them off in hopes that I can do them later, when in reality that may not happen." Angie Linderman, another young cruiser, said she had tested positive for the BRCA2 gene, which is linked to an increased risk of certain cancers, so there was no time like the present. According to People, another passenger said in a since-deleted Feb. 11 TikTok that the deceased was an "elderly lady" who'd passed away the previous night. He also made oodles of TikToks, poking his phone into every nook and cranny of the ship and documenting his experience on, as he cheekily put it, "this floating retirement home with a Cheesecake Factory attached." And, naturally, many people are just making TikToks about the cruise, hoping for some Below Deck-meets-Love Boat-style intrigue, with maybe a little Triangle of Sadness thrown in for schadenfreude.

“There’s definitely this fascination that’s baked into TikTok that we see exacerbated in things like Bama Rush and the world cruise of ‘I could never live this life, so I’m now going to live vicariously through these people,’” Maddox said. Brandee Lake, 46, said the staff and passengers have been “so friendly, so kind, so much energy,” quashing some of the online chatter that there’s tension among different travelers. Sisters Brandee and Shannon Lake, who are Black, said they’re sharing a cabin and said that quarantining  together during the pandemic prepared them to live in close quarters on the ship for nine months. The first traverses North America and South America over 67 nights and includes stops in Brazil, the Caribbean and Antarctica. A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean Cruises did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment regarding the rumors, as well as the virality of the cruise itself.

We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world. Then, some minor itinerary changes, including the cancellation of a couple ports. There have also been reports of guests fighting onboard and visa issues for later destinations. Then again, if you can find the time, it's tempting to complete most of your bucket list in a single, epic trip when you circumnavigate the globe onboard a cruise ship. The iconic world wonders you'll see are only the beginning on this epic adventure. Other passengers told "TODAY" they were on the cruise to celebrate wedding anniversaries.

Besides Royal Caribbean, operators like Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Azamara also operate world cruises, albeit more expensive and much shorter. TikToks about the Ultimate World Cruise have since received millions of views. And it seems like everyone on TravelTok has been keeping a close eye on these seafarers, eagerly awaiting updates about the potential drama at sea.

Things I Loved (and Hated) About My First Big-Ship Cruise

"I always thought cruising for retirees or people with kids because of the many activities onboard," she said, but she liked how she could see different countries without having to pack her bags and move to a new hostel each day. At first, she joked about it with her brother and sister-in-law, but it became a reality in August 2022 when she contacted a travel agent to finalize the booking. One passenger, Angie Linderman, has been chronicling her journey on the world cruise on TikTok as @angielinderman – and viewers are loving it. Since she boarded the Serenade of the Seas, her followers climbed from 100 to more than 103,000 as of Tuesday afternoon. Some said they cannot fathom what being on the cruise, traveling to that many locations while eating and drinking the days away, would do to a person physically. Finally, the last leg sees passengers touring Europe, with stops in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway over the final 63 nights.

Probably as a group of strangers thrown together in a luxurious or foreign locale, engaging in various activities where romance, conflict, and hysterics could ensue. By that definition, cruises are a reality show without the cameras, which makes Royal Caribbean’s nine-month Ultimate World Cruise the perfect reality show. But the third and fourth segments, the "Ultimate Middle East and Mediterranean" and "Ultimate Europe and Beyond" itineraries, respectively, are still available to book.

We’ve had such an enriching time so far — and we’re not even halfway through the entire experience. Despite being away from campus and working remotely, I don’t have any FOMO for things going on at UCF. I am so eager and excited to be on this journey with my family, who are the closest people to me. I am majoring in health sciences, and I plan on starting nursing school in the fall; I would like to become a travel nurse.

Suffice to say, the Ultimate World Cruise has had its share of drama, and it's only getting started! The world cruise isn't scheduled to end until Tuesday, September 10 in Miami, Florida. Voting is open to those sailing on the full 9-month world cruise, as well as those booked for the segment of the world cruise sailing. I have met so many people, experienced numerous cultures, and had the most amazing times in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru... The second option is a route that will put passengers closer to the original itinerary more quickly. It includes the aforementioned stops in Egypt, Turkey, and Greece, but sacrifices "more sub-Saharan Africa," Lake explains.

9-Month Cruise Passenger Reveals Details of 2 Options Cruisers Will Vote On After Forced Rerouting (Exclusive).

"We're just in a season of life where we could actually take nine months off and see the world." "I would say the majority, like the overwhelming majority of passengers, are retirees [or seniors]," 29-year-old Alé Kenney, who will be celebrating her fourth wedding anniversary with husband Andrew Kenney during the voyage, told TODAY.com in December. Royal Caribbean enlisted the Radiance-class Serenade of the Seas, which holds 2,490 guests and 891 crew, for the Ultimate World Cruise experience. News in a Feb. 14 statement, "We are actively providing support and assistance to the guest's loved ones at this time" and would not be sharing further details "out of the privacy of the guest and their family." And while the cruise has been going viral since it was first announced in 2021, it made more unfortunate headlines following the death of a passenger this month. As you might expect, however, longer cruises like this typically appeal to an older demographic – people who have the time and means for a longer getaway.

Drones and mines have been used to disrupt marine traffic, and while no cruise ships have yet been attacked, all cruise lines are closely monitoring the situation as necessary to protect their respective fleets. A woman by the name of Adita (@aditaml2759) is currently onboard Serenade of the Seas and posting regular TikTok videos of her experiences, including a discussion of rumors that the sailing may end in Los Angeles. Those onboard the Ultimate World Cruise have until February 20th to submit questions. After the webinar, passengers have six days to make their decisions and vote on their preferred itinerary before the winner is announced on February 27th. A special moment we all shared was when we were in Rio for New Year’s Eve, and we got to experience ringing in 2024 together.

One traveler, Angie Linderman, said she took the trip because she is at a higher risk for developing cancer in her lifetime and wanted to check off bucket list items while she is healthy. Adita’s video on these rumors has been viewed more than 85,600 times and is one of her more popular videos documenting this extreme journey. Other videos include showing weather conditions it the Drake Passage, tips for organizing and storage for such a long trip, and other tidbits that bring viewers along on the spectacular sailing. Possible options that have been speculated about include the itinerary shifting to go around Cape Horn and up the west coast of Africa.

Along the way, discover World Wonders in South America, including man-made marvels and extraordinary natural phenomena. Though she knew people would be interested in a trip as intriguing as a 274-day-long world cruise, Linderman "never anticipated this level of interest." On Nov. 7, she posted her first cruise-related TikTok sailing around the Northeast, and from there, her videos took off. "It's balancing normal life things when you’re in a cool spot and trying to balance how to make the most time when you’re in a new place," Linderman said. She said she wouldn't force herself to be the first person to disembark and the last to return to the ship. Still, Linderman doesn't want to burn out on such a long trip and still anticipates those "low" days that happen in regular life on land.

Still, she urged viewers to remember that where reality TV is often scripted and planned behind the scenes, those on the Ultimate World Cruise are real people living their real lives. Like Maddox, many likened the cruise to the viral BamaRushTok — the time of year when sororities recruit new members at The University of Alabama, which is often shared by potential recruits on TikTok. Maddox, who has taught some of the women who became stars of the Bama Rush phenomenon, said she’s seen first-hand how real people being treated like figures on reality TV can be damaging and stressful. Beyond that, those documenting their time on the ship have yet to report any reality TV-worthy drama for TikTok to consume. The posts from those on land have mostly consisted of documenting who is aboard the ship, creating “bingo cards” for events on the ship, and cheering on drama. As people began to share their experiences on board, those on dry land were already reveling in the reality show that they believed would soon unfold on the Serenade of the Seas.

The Ultimate World Cruise, a 274-night voyage aboard the Serenade of the Seas by Royal Caribbean Cruises, departed from Miami on Dec. 10. Royal Caribbean Blog reader Pat Bell shared images showing the options that guests have. The trip is set to conclude on Sept. 10, 2024 after the Mediterranean and European segments. In total, the sailing's original itinerary was set to cover 11 world wonders and travel to more than 60 countries in 274 days.
